INTEGRATED SUPPORT SERVICES

The NID’s stance on diversity is strongly echoed in the Vision and Mission of the newly established Integrated Support Services (ISS) department. The Deaf community is a diverse group with three distinguishable groups – pre-lingual, post-lingual and Deafblind. Each group faces enormous challenges in communication as well as inequality in their daily lives.

NID addresses the diverse needs of the broader Deaf community through the Integrated Support Services (ISS). Services rendered by the ISS consist of communication, talent development, basic language skills, promotion and awareness, sensitivity training and accessibility – rendering support services to all the different NID departments. The aim is to support the services already offered by NID to the Deaf and offer holistic services to the broader Deaf population (including persons who experience hearing loss at a late stage in their lives).

MULTI-MEDIA & DEAF-ACCESSIBILITY

Deaf-friendly resources are being developed to ensure that all persons with hearing loss has access to important information, e.g. HIV/AIDS.
